DESCRIPTION:\n	Some people write fanfiction. Some add their own stuff to
games. Some do both.\n\n	Or maybe even mod the hell out of Diablo II for
the fun of it. Or mod the hell in. Like\, more of it. There can never be e
nough hell in a game about fighting demons\, right? 😄\n\n\n\n	Working w
ith a 25-year-old game can be a pain sometimes\, I’m not going to lie. B
ut the results are worth it.\n\n\n\n	To mark the countdown toward the upco
ming 25th Anniversary of Diablo II — and Alpha T-6 release of my mod for
the game\, I’ll be sharing four dev blogs about my process\, once a wee
k.\n\n	Each one peeling back the curtain on a different corner or aspect o
f the world. I’m inviting you to dive deep into a very slightly enhanced
Sanctuary\; one that respects its ancient roots while venturing cautiousl
y ahead.\n\n\n\n	\n\n\n\n	Nothing is resurrected here — just restored to
the dreams it always hinted at\, the unfulfilled dreams sacrificed due to
constraints of time and technology. Though in truth\, I did take a couple
of good ideas from Blizzard’s own remaster.\n\n\n\n	The project is a lo
ve letter to Diablo II\, written in interface panels you can click\, tilem
aps you can traverse\, and the mysterious excel tables that dwell unseen i
n the back end of the game.\n\n	It’s a celebration of all the little thi
ngs that made Sanctuary feel vast\, and dangerous\, and strangely sacred.
A celebration of what it used to be\, what it still is today\, and also wh
at it could have been.\n\n\n\n	Unlike some other mods out there\, this one
was never about bugfixes or game balance. It’s about bringing my own ch
erished memories of Sanctuary back to life\, about realising my childhood
dreams of interacting with the game not only as a player but also as a dev
eloper. And you\, too\, can enjoy the fruits of my meaningless labour.\n\n
\n\n	Here’s a list of the dev blogs that are soon to come from the East:
\n\n\n\n	1. Kurast Docks Unmoored (May 29)\n\n	This one’s about quality-
of-life changes that make the game more enjoyable to play for people who l
ike me are spoiled by modern games and their convenient features.\n\n	But
also\, about how your spawn point in Kurast Docks will perhaps no longer i
nduce PTSD (according to double-blind controlled clinical trials).\n\n\n\n
		2. The Jewel City Anew (June 5)\n\n	Lut Gholein returns to reclaim its cr
own\, rebuilt from the sand up. A palace surrounded by a wall as it once w
as meant to be\, a market with real trade\, the might of a former Vizjerei
fortress finally restored.\n\n	I could call this an architect's insight i
nto redesigning Diablo II’s iconic desert city. Except I’m not an arch
itect.\n\n\n\n	3. Rogue Encampment Resettled (June 12)\n\n	The “town”
of tents and rickety walls earns its place as the first beacon of resistan
ce in a world gone to hell.\n\n	We’ll get nostalgic\, exploring subtle c
hanges to the game’s starting hub — and meet your improved mercenary c
	ompanions.\n\n\n\n	4. Friends\, Vendors\, Countrymen (June 19)\n\n	What be
gan with Deckard Cain’s free ID service has spiralled out of control.\n\
n	Imbuing\, shopping\, and a few other dangerous ideas. The old ways of it
em hunting\, honoured and hacked: vendors have wares — if you have coin.
	\n\n	No mobile app required.\n\n\n\n	\n\n\n\n	There’s a trailer\, too
	— stay a while and watch\, if you like.\n\n\n\n	I hope it captures the s
	pirit of what I’ve built.\n\n\n\n	\n \n	\n\n\n\n	 \n\n\n\n Subscribe
on Patreon to support Mike's work\n\n
